9 Best Web Hosting Companies That Migrate Your Site for Free

If your email is hosted on the old host's cPanel, a free migration that moves only the website will leave your mailboxes behind. The site may load perfectly on the new server while messages stop arriving, because the domain now points somewhere that has no mailboxes set up for it.
Every host on this list will move a site at no charge in some form. Hosting.com and Kinsta have their own staff move an unlimited number of sites for free, while most of the others cap the free move or hand the owner a tool to run.
| Host | Who does the move | Free moves included | Email and DNS | Cost after the free one |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SiteGround | You, with its Migrator plugin | WordPress sites through the plugin | Plugin copies WordPress content and databases | Manual move listed as paid in its knowledge base |
| Hosting.com | In-house team | Unlimited, every plan | Moves mail and domains, you approve go-live | No per-move fee |
| Kinsta | Migrations team | Unlimited WordPress sites | Team supplies details to point the domain | None stated |
| InMotion Hosting | Staff | At least one for new customers | One transfer can be a whole cPanel account | Depends on plan |
| Hostinger | Automated tool | Unlimited | Mail, DNS records and cron jobs stay behind | None stated |
| GreenGeeks | Migration staff | One on shared hosting | Full cPanel move includes email accounts | $15 per extra manual site |
| Liquid Web | Migrations team | Managed WordPress, WooCommerce, Magento, most managed servers | Content, email, databases and panel accounts | Not stated |
| InterServer | Staff | Transfer for new customers | Site, database and email | Not stated |
| Cloudways | Engineers, then a plugin | First site by staff, WordPress sites by plugin | Mail not mentioned on its migration page | $99 per extra non-WordPress site |
What a Free Migration Covers
A free migration usually means the host copies the site's files and database onto its own servers and checks that the copy loads. Past that point, some offers are carried out by staff and others by a plugin or automated tool that the owner starts. Some move email accounts and domains along with the site, and some move the website alone. And the free part may cover one site, several or an unlimited number, with a price attached to each move after that. In every case the owner still decides when the domain switches to the new host, or at least approves the timing.
The Nine Hosts
1. SiteGround
SiteGround's free Migrator plugin lets an owner move a WordPress site without waiting in a queue. It copies content, themes, plugins and databases over an encrypted connection, and the current site stays live while it runs. The plugin does not handle sites on a local computer or full Multisite installations.
For anything beyond that, SiteGround's own pages disagree. The FAQ on its hosting page says the first migration is free and handled by its team, while a knowledge-base article updated in September 2026 calls the manual professional migration a paid service. A buyer who needs a non-WordPress site moved should get the price in writing first.
2. Hosting.com
Hosting.com's in-house team moves sites, email and domains free, with no limit on the number of sites and no per-move fee on any plan. It moves every mailbox, along with forwarders, aliases and catch-all addresses. From a cPanel host it moves the account by backup and restore, and from anywhere else it works by hand.
The migrated site is shown on a temporary address before any DNS change, and nothing goes live until the customer approves it. A move is requested from the client portal or through live chat, and the company says it has completed more than 100,000 of them.
3. Kinsta
Kinsta's migrations team moves any number of WordPress sites free on every plan. An expedited move can be completed in as little as eight hours, and the page cites more than 1,100 migrations a month. Kinsta states that there is no downtime during the move, and malware found along the way is removed at no charge.
Kinsta hosts WordPress only. Its entry plan is $35 a month, or $30 a month billed annually, well above the price of a shared plan. The team supplies what the owner needs to point the domain, and the owner makes that change.
4. InMotion Hosting
InMotion gives every new customer at least one free website transfer, and that transfer can be an entire cPanel account or a single website and database. Its shared hosting runs on cPanel, so a whole account from another cPanel host can arrive in one move.
InMotion's own wording guarantees only the first transfer. Further free moves depend on the plan.
5. Hostinger
Hostinger moves an unlimited number of websites for free on every plan, using an automated process it describes as running without downtime. That suits an owner consolidating several small sites from one old account.
The migration covers files and databases. Email, DNS records, cron jobs, custom SSL settings and FTP accounts stay behind, and the mailboxes have to be recreated and then filled with Hostinger's separate Email Import tool.
6. GreenGeeks
Shared hosting at GreenGeeks comes with one free migration, done by its migration staff. A full cPanel account, with its domains and email accounts, counts as that one move. For a site coming to GreenGeeks web hosting from a cPanel host or any host with FTP access, the team moves the files by hand and then tests the migrated site for basic functionality.
Each additional site moved by hand costs $15, and extra full cPanel migrations cannot be bought on shared hosting.
7. Liquid Web
Liquid Web moves sites free on managed WordPress, managed WooCommerce and Magento hosting, and on most of its managed server setups. The original site stays live during the move, and the final switch can be scheduled for a store's slowest hours, which limits downtime to that switch.
The free move is tied to those managed products and does not come with a low-cost shared plan. The team handles site content, email, databases and control panel accounts and tracks each move as a support case.
8. InterServer
InterServer's team moves an existing site, its CMS, database and email for new customers, and it offers cleanup for compromised sites during the move. Standard Web Hosting costs $2.50 for the first month and renews at $7 a month.
The standard plan now runs DirectAdmin in place of cPanel, so an owner arriving from a cPanel host will manage the site, mail and DNS in a different panel after the move.
9. Cloudways
Cloudways engineers move the first website from any host for free, usually within one to two business days, and WordPress owners can then move unlimited sites with its migrator plugin at no cost.
Each additional non-WordPress site moved by its team costs $99. The migration page covers files, databases and settings, with the site tested after the move. It does not mention email, so mail on the old host needs its own plan.
Your Part of the Move
Even a staff-run migration leaves three jobs with the site owner.
- Check the new copy before switching. Use the preview or temporary address the host provides, and test contact forms, logins and any checkout pages.
- Point the domain, then keep the old host running. Change the name servers or DNS records to the new host, and leave the old account paid and untouched until propagation finishes, which commonly takes 24 to 48 hours.
- Move or protect the mail. If email is kept on the old host's cPanel, confirm it is part of the migration or create the mailboxes on the new host first. If email runs on a separate mail service, copy its MX records into the new DNS zone before switching, or mail will stop arriving even though the site works.
Keep the old email service active for at least 48 hours after the switch, and cancel the old account only once both the site and the mail have been checked.
Which Free Migration Offer to Skip
Start from what you are moving, then rule out the offers that cannot move it.
- For several WordPress sites, skip offers built on a single free move, such as GreenGeeks shared hosting and the single transfer InMotion guarantees. Hosting.com, Kinsta, Hostinger and the Cloudways plugin all move more than one site free.
- For a cPanel account with mail on it, skip Hostinger's route unless you are ready to rebuild the mailboxes yourself, and plan the mail separately at Cloudways. Hosting.com, GreenGeeks' full cPanel migration and InterServer move mail with the site.
- For a site that is not WordPress, skip the SiteGround and Cloudways plugins and Kinsta, and ask for the per-site price wherever one applies.
- For a busy store, skip any offer that cannot schedule the final switch. Liquid Web will schedule it for your store's slowest hours.
