Juliusz Lewinski, Hägglunds Drives’ representative in Mexico, has been working on this contract for a long time in consultation with Belize Sugar Industries. Belize is situated in Central America and has a population of around 295,000. Six hundred of its inhabitants work at the sugar mill, which produces around 110,000 tonnes of sugar each year. Belize Sugar Industries is involved in a unique power generation project that will mean the electrification of the mill. The steam turbines that previously drove the sugar cane crushers will now be replaced with electro-hydraulic drives. The very first installation will take place this year, and the rest of the drives are to be installed by 2009. In addition, the company has also signed a 10-year service contract. “Hägglunds Drives looks forward to working even closer with Belize Sugar Industries for many years to come,” says Bo Ljung, head of the Sugar division at Hägglunds Drives.
