high level defective glazing unit inspection
Glazing Refurbishment have recently been contacted by a large nationwide facility management client who was having problems at one of their sites just south of central London. The site in question was experiencing multiple spontaneous breakages to some of their high level glazing units. The client contacted us and requested an initial site survey. Following our initial site survey, it was proposed that a more detailed survey / inspection would be conducted. During the detailed survey, some samples of the defective units were to be taken and sent for testing so Glazing Refurbishment’s technical team could fully ascertain why these breakages were occuring. This would allow us to define the scope of the project as a whole. Often in our projects we utilise the capabilities of our IRATA level 3 trained Abseil technicians. However, on this particular job, we needed specialist glazing technicians to remove certain parts of the defective glass so that the glass could be sent off for testing. As these specialist technicians were not trained in abseil, we had to facilitate getting the specialists to the glazing face by utilising a lorry mount. Once the samples of glass had been taken from the defective units, we then undertook the task of removing the rest of the units and then making them safe, until such a time as the replacement of the glass was ready to be started. Once we receive the results from the tests on the glass, we will be able to put together a comprehensive report for our clients to review.
