WESSEX GALVANISERS HELPS COLLEGE CELEBRATE FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY
Wessex Galvanizers was called upon to provide its specialist hot dip treatment to protect a steel sculpture commissioned to celebrate Eastleigh College’s Golden Jubilee. The celebratory sculpture has been installed in the communal grounds of the college, which was opened in 1962, and depicts a life-sized man reading a book. The artwork was designed by local artist Barry Durrant, and created with the support of architectural metalwork firm Noble Metalworks Ltd. It took a total of 400 hours to create, and was officially unveiled by Mayor of Eastleigh Rupert Kyrle, alongside local MP Chris Huhne. Richard Whiddett, Commercial Manager for Wessex Galvanizers, commented: “We were delighted to have been involved with such an eye-catching project that is celebrating such a huge milestone for a local educational institution. Many artists are starting to realise the huge benefits of galvanizing their work, both aesthetically and financially.” Rod Noble, Managing Director of Noble Metalworks Ltd, said: “Barry’s done a great job creating such an important piece of art for the college’s fiftieth anni versary. The design was based around learning, studies, and knowledge, and I believe it really does encapsulate that. Galvanizing will ensure the sculpture is protected against rust and corrosion, enabling it to be enjoyed for years to come."
