TME Calls Time On Plastics
TME CALLS TIME ON PLASTICS It’s out with the old and in with the new as TME becomes a more eco-friendly business. New sustainable packaging In 2022 TME is calling time on plastics used as point-of-sale packaging for our temperature test and monitoring equipment. The journey began when we ceased using layflat poly tubing for packaging our best-selling MM2000 range of handheld thermometers. Now it’s the turn of our popular temperature probes and accessories. Instead of blister packs, grip seal bags and layflat poly tubing, we have begun a phased introduction of recyclable sleeved cartons, boxes and envelopes – all recyclable. TME Handheld Thermometer in Recycable Packaging And TME hasn’t stopped there – plastic bubble wrap has also become a thing of the past. Instead, recycled paper is now being used to protect customer purchases even further during transit. Manager, Ann Gerry has overseen the project from beginning to end. “Developing sustainable packaging has been a big challenge for us with many a head-scratching moment! Our high accuracy equipment needs careful protection both in transit and at point of sale. But we also needed to keep costs down for our customers. It’s a difficult balance but I think we’ve done it!” Proud to be changing Sustainable packaging is part of a company-wide change at TME, including a number of successful environmental improvements already achieved – like enhanced building insulation, installation of electrical vehicle points and adoption of home-working where viable. MD, Tom Sensier is proud of TME’s environmental journey. “There are still plenty of challenges ahead. Change is not easy and ensuring a high quality, value for money offering will always be paramount. But TME is committed to making improvements wherever we can to help reduce the impact of climate change, and sustainable packaging is an important step in that direction.”
