Health and Safety Executive (HSE) approved Emergency First Aid at Work course, in accordance with the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.Subjects covered include:
Fainting
Burns
Shock
Choking (adult)
Managing an emergency
Health and safety (first aid) regulations
Communication and casualty care
Resuscitation (adult CPR)
Bleeding (minor and severe)
Seizures (adult)
Unconscious casualty
Duration
Typically this course is delivered in 1 day. However the mandatory 6 hours required by the HSE can also be delivered over a longer period of time should staff availability be a problem to your organisation.
Certification
Certification is dependent on successful continuous assessment of the student, there is no final exam. Those students who complete the course and are deemed to have reached the required standard are issued with a certificate that is valid for three years
First Aid at Work
This comprehensive 3 day course covers a wide range of first aid emergencies, enabling all participants to deal with an emergency situation with confidence in a prompt safe and effective manner. This course will give the participants a qualification at the highest level of first aid, meeting the statutory requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

Wounds and bleeding
Shock
Minor injuries
Choking
Fractures
Sprains and strains
Spinal injuries
Chest injuries
Burns and scalds
Eye injuries
Poisoning
Anaphylaxis
Heart attack
Stroke
Epilepsy
Asthma
Diabetes
Cardio
Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Acting safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
Treating an unconscious casualty (including seizure)
Preventing cross infection, recording incidents and actions and the use of available equipment
Duration
Typically this course is run over three consecutive days. However the mandatory 18 hours required by the HSE can also be delivered over a longer period of time should staff availability be a problem to your organisation.
Certification
Successful candidates will be awarded an HSE recognised First Aid at Work certificate which is valid for 3 years.The HSE strongly recommend that workplace first aiders attend an annual refresher course to maintain their first aid skills.
First Aid at Work Requalification
The two day first aid at work requalification course allows first aid at work qualified staff to re-validate their certificate for a further 3 years. Attendees must have a valid (not out of date by more than 28 days) first aid at work certificate. End of course candidate review is conducted by independent, external assessors through written, practical and oral assessment.A range of subjects is covered including
Fractures
Burns and scalds
Common illnesses
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
Breathing Problems – choking
Awareness of current regulations
Record keeping – recording accidents, RIDDOR, First Aid kits, disposing safely of clinical waste
Vital Signs – breathing, level of consciousness, temperature, colour
Airway Management – causes and treatment of unconscious collapse
Circulation Problems – controlling external bleeding and treatment for shock
Incident Management – a systematic approach to managing first aid incidents and assessing casualties
Safe best practice – minimise the risk of infection
Duration
A 2 day course consisting of theory and practical work along with an independent assessment.
Certification
Successful candidates will be awarded a new HSE recognised First Aid at Work certificate which is valid for 3 years.AED and BLS
This very practical course will enable students to use an AED competently and with confidence. Not only does this course cover the use of AEDs but also includes vital training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and choking procedures.
A range of subjects is covered including a four hour course consisting of theory and practical work along with an assessment.
Certification
Certificates of qualification will be issued on successful completion of the courses and last one year.
