Meet the team!
WE WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY TO INTRODUCE SOME OF OUR MANAGEMENT TEAM MEMBERS OVER THE COMING WEEKS Our apprentice engineer Ollie has been a great addition to the team. He is hardworking and is showing us how the next generation do things! With a keen eye on his engineering and organisation skills, he is proving to be a fantastic investment to AMI Marine. One small problem with young strapping men like these, is that they do strange things like going out to the pub on a work night, while enjoying sleeping in a smelly tent at a music festival – live and let live! JOB TITLE Apprentice Engineer WHAT’S THE BEST PART OF YOUR JOB? Anytime I get to go on installs or APT’s, hands on learning is the best part of my apprenticeship. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU WENT TO SEA? Back in May for an install on a local ferry. I fitted X-VHFR and the all new XMDR with CCTV. WHAT DO YOU DO ON YOUR DAY OFF? Socialising with friends at the pub and I enjoy playing football. WHAT’S LEFT ON YOUR BUCKET LIST? More travel and skydiving FAVOURITE DINNER? Steak, mash and vegetables Janine is our organising queen who project managed our most recent ISO certification. She managed to “herd the cats” of AMI and obtain ‘workflows’ from every member of our team – a mean feat achieved by a determined and organised person which will be recorded within AMI history book! With her job being so sensible she does like to enjoy herself too. Janine is always up for a laugh and has been known to catwalk a new outfit across the office…work it girl! JOB TITLE Admin Support Manager WHAT’S THE BEST PART OF YOUR JOB? Definitely the people, it’s a great team. Also, it’s great to see new processes and improvements being welcome and put into place. Achieving our ISO 9001:2015 was a great success and demonstration of teamwork. MOST ANNOYING OFFICE/WORK HABIT? Making cold coffee, as forgot to check the urn was switched on! WHAT DO YOU DO ON YOUR DAY OFF? Doing something fun and outdoors with my 2.5-year-old son Caleb WHAT’S LEFT ON YOUR BUCKET LIST? Visit the Maldives and jump out of a plane! Nasser is our Senior Hardware engineer who designs and makes all the PCB’s for our equipment. He spends a lot of his time in the workshop but pops his head out regularly for a caffeine power up! Seriously; we call him ‘2 Scoops’ because his coffee needs to be STRONG! JOB TITLE Hardware Engineer WHAT’S THE BEST PART OF YOUR JOB? I love problem solving and will work on a project until its perfect! WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU WENT TO SEA? I joined the team earlier in the year to install new systems (XVHFR and XMDR) on a local ferry that I had helped design and build. WHAT DO YOU DO ON YOUR DAY OFF? I like working with wood, I will start again once I set up my new workshop. FAVOURITE DINNER? Anything really, I will eat anything! Don’t mind Margherita pizza. Lucy is the loud one on the team, luckily, she’s only in 3 days of the week, otherwise most of the team would be suffering from headaches!! Lucy’s main job is social media, database input and website content, although we think she just spends all day making pretty pictures and planning difficult team building charity events! Lucy is the one who sent some of her colleagues on the ’24 Peaks Challenge’ in 2018. They all survived …. but may be more careful about volunteering in future! JOB TITLE Marketing Manager WHAT’S THE BEST PART OF YOUR JOB? Being free with creative thinking, designing images, adverts and coming up with some crazy ideas! WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU WENT TO SEA? I am absolutely petrified of the sea! As a child I was forced to go on the Isle of White ferry to visit my Grandmother – Traumatic!! MOST ANNOYING OFFICE/WORK HABIT? Being very very loud (includes singing…a lot)!!! FAVOURITE DINNER? My Mums lasagna and salad! Robin is our longest standing team member and a core part of AMI. He has trained hundreds of engineers over the years, luckily his Scottish accent has been tainted by years of living on the south coast of England so the engineers can understand him! If you are looking for a story from the Navy days, then Rob is your man! JOB TITLE Senior Technical Manager WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU WENT TO SEA? 1998 HMS Glasgow MOST ANNOYING OFFICE/WORK HABIT? Finishing of the cakes/biscuits. HOW WOULD YOUR COLLEAGUES DESCRIBE YOU? The grumpy old man. WHAT DO YOU DO ON YOUR DAY OFF? As little as possible Our dedicated Sales Support Manager Lauren has revolutionised our sales procedures! Bringing her organisational and unquestionable work ethic to benefit the whole company, she is also the quietest member of the team – she doesn’t talk less; we just can’t hear her when she does – ‘Lauren the whisperer’! Lauren is always up for a challenge and brings her “fitness guru knowledge” to a very reluctant and slightly less athletic team! JOB TITLE Sales Support Manager WHAT’S THE BEST PART OF YOUR JOB? Winning orders that we have been working on for a long time! WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU WENT TO SEA? I was lucky enough to spend a day sailing on the Tallship Tenacious in October 2017 thanks to the Jubilee Sailing Trust. MOST ANNOYING OFFICE/WORK HABIT? Trying to convert my colleagues to becoming vegetarian / vegan! WHAT’S LEFT ON YOUR BUCKET LIST? Walk the Great Wall of China, Skydiving, return to India with my children….to name a few 😊 Paul is our Software Engineer who sits behind 5 screens and no-one really understands exactly what he does…. His understanding of code enables him to make machines talk to each other! Other than code wizarding Paul is one of the quietest members of the team, this doesn’t mean he’s not listening… His one liners and amazing general knowledge are always on hand to help us all out and keep us smiling! JOB TITLE Software Engineer WHAT’S THE BEST PART OF YOUR JOB? Those days when I leave the office at the end of the day knowing the software is of higher quality than at the start of the day. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU WENT TO SEA? January 2019 – part of a team fitting a X-MDR on a local ferry (if Southampton Water counts as at sea?) MOST ANNOYING OFFICE/WORK HABIT? I rarely, if ever, answer the telephone WHAT’S LEFT ON YOUR BUCKET LIST? See the Northern Lights, snorkel with Manta Rays and/or a Whale Shark are top of a long list Cheryl is a central cog in the machine that is AMI – she ensures all our orders leave on time! She also knows how to crack a whip when needed and keeps the whole team laughing with her playful personality and her horrendous geography… for someone who coordinates logistics all day, its sometimes a little worrying!!! JOB TITLE Operations Manager WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU WENT TO SEA? Went on vessels during Seaworks Show MOST ANNOYING OFFICE/WORK HABIT? The warehouse team would probably say obsessed with organisation and tidiness. WHAT DO YOU DO ON YOUR DAY OFF? Spend time with my children WHAT’S LEFT ON YOUR BUCKET LIST? To own a Rottweiler If you’ve phoned our office this year, then it was Sam who answered – he is seriously quick at grabbing that handset! Sam brings the fun to the team and is always up for every challenge or task asked of him. He may be the youngest on our team but his ability to soak up knowledge makes him an amazing apprentice – we cannot wait to see how he builds his career within our team. JOB TITLE Service Coordinator WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT AMI MARINE? I love AMI because we are like a family everyone gets on and it makes a great dynamic for a workplace WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU WENT TO SEA? Last time I went to see was on a Caribbean cruise MOST ANNOYING OFFICE/WORK HABIT? The thing that annoys everyone is my singing WHAT’S LEFT ON YOUR BUCKET LIST? The one thing at the top of my bucket list is to go shopping at the biggest shopping mall in the world in Dubai.
