WHT assist with HGV Load Restraint System

WHT answered the call of Lancashire engineer Peter Blackburn last year as he sought to develop the Delta Load Secure System. WHT agreed to provide the forging solution for the new product and instigate a fruitful partnership in the process. Peter, who had previously worked in the haulage industry for 30 years, sought a safer fastening system than that which is conventionally used on the roads. He said: “I needed a forging that would hold the cargo onto our new track. As a Lancashire man I went to a few firms in my local area but they all said they were too busy. I got the same story in Manchester and Preston. When I spoke to John Tildesley I was absolutely amazed by the friendliness and the old fashioned values of the company. The West Midlands still leads the way in trades like forging and Tildesley certainly hasn’t let me down.” Peter, who established Walter Hunt Ltd to produce the Delta Load Secure System, is also working in collaboration with neighbouring West Midlands firm Metsec, who is producing the Delta track for the product. The company name is derived from Peter’s grandfather and carries resonance with W.H.Tildesley. Peter added: “The founding of their company coincided with the time when my grandfather was working as a blacksmith making rope hooks for wooden horse drawn drays. When I come down to meet with them I get a sense of friendship and knowing which direction we’re heading in. Most firms these days don’t have time for niceties. I’ve been approached by people who represent forging companies in China but they can’t offer the same peace of mind as Tildesley because I know they can do the job with the right material. Their product is second to none.” The Delta Load Secure System is considered to be the only longitudinal safety strapping system which fastens cargo to the chassis of a vehicle and was several years in design. The product was designed by Peter in response to what he sees as the antiquated and untested rope hook and rave rail system currently used to secure loads to trailers, wagons, flats and curtain siders. The Delta System allows total lashing security from within the deck of a vehicle and can be retro fitted or fitted from new-build onto any trailer or rigid vehicle. It was received with great acclaim at the IAA Trailer Innovation Awards 2011 in Hannover and was awarded 8th place in the safety category. Since then it has been met with a flurry of interest since entering the market. Peter said: “We’ve had interest from some massive companies, including several large trailer manufacturers in the UK and the EU, plus one of the suppliers to the Ministry of Defence. This is a unique product that is fully tested and works." The picture shows a 2800kg weight at 45 degrees with no movement on the Delta Anchors.
