Freeview mobile App to launch late January 2019
Freeview is to launch its long-awaited new mobile app, enabling viewers to live stream and catch-up on Freeview programmes. Officially launching on 22nd January 2019, the app will be available initially on iOS, followed by Android. The app will allow viewers to live stream channels from BBC, ITV and Channel 4. On-demand content will initially come from BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All4, My5 and UKTV Play, with further providers joining later. Freeview says the app "will mark the first time viewers will be able to watch live Freeview programming without having to access an aerial", although technically TVPlayer has offered free access to a broad range of Freeview channels via a mobile for some time. And for viewers who currently only receive a restricted Freeview channel line-up from a relay, the new app looks set to add some ITV and Channel 4 services that can't currently be received from every Freeview transmitter.
