Inspiring Ideas from the Bar Industry

Inspiring Ideas from the Bar Industry
29/04/2020

Thank you to our industry colleagues for their innovative ideas. The hospitality industry was one of the biggest hit following the government’s closure of all pubs, bars, restaurants and leisure centres amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

While the UK still faces an uncertain future, parts of the world are starting to recover with China’s bars and restaurants starting to resume normal trade. A crisis like this has never been seen before, but what this tells us is that the hospitality sector can recover and the industry will be ready to open their doors again when the time comes.

So what can bar and restaurant owners do to keep their business going through these challenging circumstances? The safety of your staff and customers is the number one priority, but even if you’re forced to close completely, there are other things you can do. We’ve rounded up some innovative ideas from our industry colleagues below for inspiration.

Virtual events From the much-loved pub quiz to speed dating nights, many venues rely on events. With some event companies also choosing to take their business online, this is another great idea our industry could adopt. Live events company Slow Dating, who previously operated in bar venues, has now launched their virtual speed dating service, while Liverpool’s Hot Water Comedy Club continues to offer online streams of their comedy shows. It’s a new experience for everyone but these businesses are proving that hosting virtual events online can still be successful.

Click and collect cocktails It makes sense for restaurants and food businesses to offer a takeaway service for customers where possible, but what about the drinks industry? Some London bars like Ladies & Gentlemen in Kentish Town have taken to mixing up larger quantities of their most popular cocktails ready for collection or home delivery service, and the rest of the country could take inspiration from the capital and let customers enjoy that first-class bar mixology from their living rooms.

The home bar experience Another inspiring idea is to give your customers what they need to bring the magic of your bar home. The Whiskey Exchange Bring the Bar Home campaign offers DIY cocktail bundles created by different bar venues not only to support the venue but to offer everyone stuck at home a boost during these difficult times. Meanwhile, Signature Brew is also delivering a new Pub In A Box bundle featuring a mixture of their core beers along with a selection of pub comforts from glassware and beer mats to a music quiz you can do at home.

Virtual bar Craft brewery chain BrewDog recently opened their online bar to allow everyone self-isolating at home to socialise and enjoy the usual comforts of a night out at the pub including the classic pub quiz, cocktail making and live music. This creative idea showcases the achievements of our industry working hard to allow us to still get together, share a drink and stay safe.

From the team here at Servaclean, we would like to say thank you to these businesses and the many others keeping the industry going.
