WHITEFRIARS CHOOSE GLASSTEX

WHITEFRIARS CHOOSE GLASSTEX
22/04/2005

When The Whitefriars Housing Group decided to improve the communal areas in its flats’ developments in the Willenhall and Tile Hill areas of Coventry, it chose the “Glasstex System” from Eclipse Wallcoverings to upgrade the existing surfaces that had not survived the wear and tear of recent years.

In addition to choosing a system that would withstand the day-to-day knocks that were inevitable in the communal areas of the forty, three and four storey high blocks of flats, Whitefriars senior surveyor Rob Askew was looking for a covering that would meet stringent health and safety requirements and also look good. Rob explains: “It was very important that the material we chose was both attractive and durable and would meet a high fire rating.

“The Glasstex Wallcovering System was recommended to us. I contacted Eclipse because the product we were using at the time was not meeting our requirements, both on an application level and when tenants moved in. Initially, we tested the Glasstex System in just one block of flats for three months and were so pleased with the results that we decided to use Glasstex across all forty blocks.”

Manufactured by Johns Manville and distributed exclusively by Eclipse Wallcoverings, the Glasstex System is a low maintenance, long lasting, vandal proof, anti-bacterial and attractive internal wallcovering that has rapidly become ‘first choice’ with local authorities looking for a decorative textured finish.

Allan Thomas from Eclipse Wallcoverings comments: “ The Glasstex System has so many outstanding properties that it is a real innovation in interior decorating for local authorities. For Whitefriars, one of the most important issues was its fire retardant qualities. Glasstex has a Class ‘O’ fire rating, providing a protective membrane to most surfaces when painted. Made from non toxic materials, painted Glasstex surfaces help prevent flames from spreading horizontally along rooms or corridor walls and vertically into ceiling spaces. Also, Glasstex is up to a third less expensive than standard fire retardant systems.”

Allan Thomas stresses other important properties of Glasstex. “Because Glasstex is made from non-toxic materials, it does not provide a breeding ground for parasites and, with no build-up of static electricity, it reduces the key element of many allergies. In addition, with the right covering of paint it is resistant to moisture, mould and mildew, can be scrubbed, disinfected or decontaminated.

With its fire retardant, decorative, durable and hygiene qualities, the Glasstex System is the perfect solution for covering walls in public buildings, houses, offices, hospitals, and hotels. It is easy to apply to almost any surface – even cracked and uneven ones – including wood, plastic, gypsum board and concrete and, once in place, actually strengthens the building’s structure, resisting even extreme wear and tear.

Rob Askew adds: “ We have been so pleased with the results of Glasstex and its ease of application that we intend to use it for all our projects.”

Glasstex can be painted in any colour or finish, textures and patterns that can be mixed to suite the clients needs.
