Ashtead Technology's high-speed camera takes centre stage in new Sky 1 dance show
An Olympus I-Speed 3 video camera hired from instrumentation specialist Ashtead Technology has played a key role in Sky TV’s brand new series Got To Dance, by providing highly detailed footage of complex dance routines. The I-Speed 3 is commonly used in film and TV production, as well as many other industries including manufacturing, ballistics and R&D, because it allows fast moving activities to be slowed down for in-depth, high-definition footage or visual inspection. Award-winning production company Shine TV contacted Ashtead Technology to hire the camera to film choreographed dance routines for the show, which saw the production crew travel around the UK auditioning hundreds of dance acts. Sonia Hached, production co-ordinator on the programme, said: “The Olympus I-Speed 3 enabled the crew to film fast-moving and intricate dance moves in high definition quality, particularly when played back in slow-motion, allowing for a more detailed analysis of the routines. “We hired it on three separate occasions during the audition stage of the programme, which included one choreographed dance routine featuring 150 dancers. During playback of film shot by the I-Speed 3, we were delighted with the quality, detail and depth of the footage that was recorded. The rental option also enabled us to hire the camera exactly when we needed it, return it back to Ashtead Technology before taking delivery of it again ready to use, for our next shoot.” Advanced features of the I-Speed 3 include extreme low-light sensitivity, 1280 x 1024 colour resolution and the capability of recording up to an impressive 150,000 frames per second, allowing the user to keep moving targets in frame longer. The camera is supplied with a selection of lenses, including a 24mm-70mm zoom, 50mm and 28mm fixed focal lenses and can be fully controlled by the Controller Display Unit or PC / Laptop via Ethernet. Alan Hasson, Ashtead Technology’s General Manager, said: “Shine TV is another great example of a Film or TV production company hiring an Olympus I-Speed 3 to capture highly detailed footage previously unattainable, as a result of the advanced technology it uses. “The I-Speed 3 arrives fully calibrated, charged and ready to use for a hire period that suits your needs most. Renting also provides access to the latest technology without the burden of heavy capital expenditure.” Please visit www.ashtead-technology.com to explore the complete range of instrumentation available from Ashtead Technology.
