PPL has a unique partnership with one of the UK's most experienced & respected emergency response organisations with a worldwide reputation for quality & effectiveness in responding to & dealing with oil spills in any location. Dedicated oil and chemical response units remain on permanent standby, 24 hours/day, 365 days/year. With more than 40 years experience of responding to emergency incidents our teams are trained to deal quickly and effectively with all manner of oil, chemical and biological hazards on land or at sea. With well-equipped bases around the country our experienced teams can handle anything from small industrial spills to major marine incidents. At the same time as dealing with a spill they will also limit impact on wildlife and the environment. These experts have been involved in a number of high-profile clean up operations, including the Exxon Valdez , Braer, and Sea Empress in addition to countless smaller, but no less significant emergencies occurring throughout the year both on land and sea. The teams operate to the internationally recognised Tier 1, 2 & 3 levels of response. HOW DOES IT WORK? Calls to the emergency response number always go to our call centre. Your call will be answered - they will explain that they are PPL's call handling facility, take basic contact details fromyou and then connect you as below. 1) 08:30 to 17:30 Monday to Friday the calls will be directed to PPL who will triage the problem and take the next necessary steps. 2) At night-time, weekends and holidays the calls will be diverted to our response partner's own emergency call centre ensuring trouble-free, seamless continuity in dealing with your problem. WHO CAN USE THE SERVICE? All users must register with PPL to be given the special freephone telephone number. (Call 01484 845000 and speak to Katey Gladwell for help). A "Registered user" organisation does not pay a fee but will pay the full costs* for action subsequently taken. A "Subscriber" organisation will pay an annual fee (paid qarterly in advance) and receive a discount on the actual costs* of subsequently action. Major clients for PPL's other products and services may be offered free access to the help line as part of their overall package. (* we reserve the right to charge an "up-front" proportion of the initially estimated costs to be paid immediately upon our mobilisation. Subsequent costs will be charged on a weekly basis or as task is completed and all invoices are due for prompt payment) CAN I CALL JUST FOR ADVICE - WILL I BE CHARGED? During the day you can call the help line number or our regular number for general help and advice and naturally this is without charge. Out of normal working hours we assume that your call will be as a result of a problem and you will "enter the system". If a resonse team is mobilised you will be charged. Please note that while this is an emergency repsonse service it is not an "ambulance service". We won't be there in a few minutes but, depending on the scale of the problem, we will be there within a few hours.
