EVIAN IS INTRODUCING BOTTLES MADE FROM 100% RPET
It seems like every piece of plastics news is about recycling and manufacturers becoming more sustainable. However, as an industry that has been under fire in recent years over this exact matter, it’s encouraging for all companies who were already working sustainably to see some of the larger companies following suit. The next brand to become more sustainable is Evian. The water brand is certainly ahead of the bandwagon with their announcement to make their plastic water bottles from 100% rPET (recycled polyethylene terephthalate). What is Different about the New Bottle? The new design no longer has a plastic label and instead has the branding ‘Evian’ moulded into the bottle. This means that apart from the lid, the bottle is made from 100% rPET. The lid has remained the signature pink cap. The bottles have actually been recyclable since 1992, however, they weren’t entirely made from recycled material which is what the brand is trying to change. When will the new Bottle be Introduced? The release of this new and sustainable product is going to be staggered across multiple countries, over a period of time. In July 2020, France was the first to see the new design hit their hotels, restaurants and other hospitality sectors. Other countries will see the new bottle introduced from September this year so make sure you’re on the lookout. What Else Has Evian Done to be Sustainable? Back in 2018, the company announced that they would be working towards not using any virgin plastics in their products by 2025. This pledge was made by Danone, the owner of Evian and Volvic water. Evian achieved their Carbon Neutral Certification in April 2020, which showcases their greater reliance on sustainability when producing their plastic bottles. The brand also strongly supports the Deposit Return Scheme, an act that is set to increase the rate of recycling in the UK to a minimum of 90%. They’ve collaborated with a wide variety of organisations like Loop Industries, Hubbub, The Ocean Clean Up and Plastic Patrol, in order to eliminate the amount of plastic waste being produced. After Danone’s recent investment acceleration plan, they’re even looking to transform Evian’s energy use, operations and product packaging between 2020-2022.
