The TC Insert for plastic has two or more cutting flutes to maintain stability. Outward stress is reduced by the action of self tapping so that it may be used in brittle materials and also where the boss walls are thin. The balanced cutting load of the insert reduces 'hoop stresses' caused by the cutting edge and therefore guarantees much closer axial alignment of the insert in the hole, compared to inserts with no relief flutes. Also, because each cutting thread has less distance to travel between start and finish of the installation process due to the advance rate of the coarse external thread, there is less chance of it breaking down in hard abrasive materials. The cutting flutes contain the chips in an area where they will not affect the internal thread.
