Quadra casings give a new angle to Spalding retail development
Quadra pre-formed square column casings from Encasement are being used to help create a stylish and contemporary interior to the Red Lion Quarter retail development in Spalding, Lincolnshire. Constructed by Wilmott Dixon, the new mixed-use development replaces existing buildings that had been derelict for around 10 years and now includes a food court, office space and retail units as well as a restaurant and training kitchen run by Boston College. Encasement’s Quadra casings are used to conceal structural columns in the open plan ground floor area and perimeter, which provides 3,660m2 of space for the Red Lion’s retail and food court. Measuring 300mm square and standing 2700 mm high, the Quadra casings are finished in a durable ‘coffee’ coloured laminate, which is highly durable and resistant to damage, while also being easy to clean. For further protection from shopping baskets and trolleys, the casings are also fitted with grey buffer rail strips. Encasement’s Managing Director, Martin Taylor, commented: “The Red Lion Quarter is an important development for Spalding as it brings together a range of complementary facilities into a single purpose designed building, which can act as a focus for businesses and the community.” He added: “It is also one of a range of retail projects that we have been involved with where our column casings have been used to good effect by helping create a more stylish and practical finish by concealing structural components and building services.” You can see more images from the Spalding retail development Quadra column casing installation in our Column Casing gallery.
