N-CASE COLUMN CASINGS GIVE THE PERFECT FINISH TO OUTSTANDING REFURBISHMENT AT HISTORIC TURNBERRY
The architects behind the recent refurbishment of the historic Turnberry Hotel, which was completed in advance of the British open Golf Championship in July, turned to Encasement to provide the column casings used as part of the £40million project. Owned by Leisurecorp and part of the renowned Starwood Luxury Collection brand, Turnberry Hotel originally opened in 1906 and has undergone continuous growth and development ever since, with a new club house in 1993, the Colin Montgomerie Links Golf Academy in 2000 and the new Arran par 3 and 4 course in 2002 among the more recent additions. The scope of works on the listed building encompassed restoration of the ground floor public areas, more than 44 ocean-view bedrooms and suites, a new open grand foyer and a new ‘sports’ bar as well as a rejuvenated ‘Grand Tea Room’ and ‘1906’ restaurant, where the new column casings where installed. The design by architects, 3DReid and interior designers, Fox Linton, called for the column casings to reflect the style of traditional luxury within the restaurant and ground floor renovation plans and used specially produced mouldings to replicate ‘Ionic’ style columns. Encasement supplied sixteen 350mm diameter columns to the project, each three metres in length to ensure the columns could span the high ceilings with no joints. They were then cut to length and finished on site. Encasement’s Managing Director, Martin Taylor explained: “It was a privilege to be involved in such a prestigious project and the final result is absolutely stunning. The quality of the restoration and finish is spectacular and our columns are on show all year round adding to the luxurious ambience of the stylish interior.”
