Has the Bank of England made a mistake in the way it prints money?
The Bank of England has recently announced its decision to get rid off the old paper bank notes and replace them with new polymer bank notes, this is a major change in how it prints money. The arrival of polymer bank notes won’t take place until 2016, where a brand new Winston Churchill £5 note will be released, followed by the Jane Austen £10 note roughly a year later. The introduction of new polymer bank notes has its pros and cons, some advantages being that they last longer, stay cleaner for longer and are much more difficult to counterfeit. The question raised ‘Has the Bank of England made a mistake’ is based on the disadvantages, these being that the new polymer bank notes have proven to be difficult to handle and may raise an issue when it comes to counting, handling and their use in cash points.
