The Axon' Low Mass SpaceWire is ESA approved
Reducing the mass of all components, parts and equipment is a continuous objective in the space industry. Already involved in a multitude of space projects, Axon’ has designed a low mass SpaceWire to lighten traditional high speed links.Since recent approval by ESA, the Axon’ Low Mass SpaceWire is the only one qualified to the ESCC3902/004 standard after Axon’ successfully completed development of the cable under ESA funding. It highlights the long-term experience of the company in this field and its growing relationship with ESA. 50% lighter Compared to the standard Axon’ SpaceWire qualified to the ESCC3902/003, the low mass version is 50 % lighter. The multistranded conductor is designed to improve flexibility and facilitates installation by users thanks to the smaller bend radius of the overall cable. The primary insulation made by Axon’ has the twin advantages of improving the dielectric constant whilst also reducing weight. To improve radiation resistance , the outer jacket is made of lightweight polyimide tape. With these significant changes, Axon’ offers a 50% lighter version with improved flexibility, bend radius, radiation resistance (300 Mrad) and EMC performances. Flight heritage Small, lightweight, highly reliable and resistant to high temperatures and cosmic radiation: these are just some of the qualities of the interconnect systems offered by Axon’ for space applications. Already on board a multitude of space projects including Ariane, the International Space Station and the Curiosity Rover, Axon' Cable provides custom designed interconnects for satellite wiring, data transmission, high data rate links and power distribution in spacecraft.
