New successful space mission for Axon’ Cable
Amos 4, the Israeli telecommunications satellite, was released into orbit on 31st August from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan by Zenit, the Russian launch vehicle. Another successful mission for Axon’ Cable, the group having supplied Amos 4 with connections designed to distribute energy throughout the satellite. This launch highlights the international presence of the Axon’ group in the space market. A global presence After Alphasat, the largest and most sophisticated European telecommunications satellite launched end of July, Amos 4 will be the next biggest and most advanced satellite to have benefitted from Axon’s cabling expertise – and certainly the largest in Israel. This satellite, built by Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd (IAI) for the telecommunications operator Spacecom, is tasked with providing wide band broadcasting, HD television and mobile services to Russia, South Asia and Africa. This is a first for Axon’ Cable: Amos 4 is the first non-European satellite to be fitted with Axon’s bus bar and flexible energy distribution interconnects. This mission highlights not only the international presence of the French-based cabling group but also its specific expertise within the space market. Russian, Indian and Chinese satellite manufacturers have also been convinced by this technology. Space expert Designed to distribute power from the solar panels throughout the satellite, the bus bar links connect the battery, the various electrical devices and the voltage regulating system. This type of lightweight aluminium flat connection, delivering benefits in both weight and reliability, has proven to be an effective solution for more than 20 European satellites in orbit. Axon’ Cable also equips Amos 4 with MIL Standard 1553B data transmission harnesses. The French company has long experience supplying these high reliability networks to the Ariane launch vehicle and numerous satellites. Equipped with several dedicated clean rooms, the group is very well versed in the requirements and challenges of space applications: weight saving, miniaturization, and materials designed for severe environments.
