Axon' aboard A350
The first commercial flight of the A350 has successfully completed its maiden flight. On 15th January, the first Airbus jetliner delivered in December to the Qatar Airline company left Doha, the capital of Qatar, to Frankfurt in Germany. This is also a success for Axon’ Cable which supplies the electrical connections that equip the flight control system. By transmitting electrical signals, these have a vital role to play during take-off and landing. No flight without reliable transmission Transmitting signals from the flight computer to the flight controls: this is the essential mission of the components delivered by Axon’. The transmission network between the flight system and the actuators (motor which moves the high-lift devices of an aircraft) is in fact made up of the electrical and electronic interconnect solutions (couplers and contacts). In short, no flight without reliable transmissions! As single supplier of couplers for the flight control system, Axon’ has been selected thanks to its expertise in data transmission. The company has already delivered electrical links to military aircrafts including Tiger, NH90, Eurofighter and the Ariane 5 launcher. Protected against lightning strikes The A350 is the first Airbus aircraft made with a carbon structure. It means that the aircraft fuselage is lighter than classical metal structures. The reduction in weight implies fuel economy for airline companies. However, electronic components in carbon structure are more susceptible to lightning discharges. This is where Axon’s expertise makes the difference. For the A350, Axon’ Cable has designed components with metal shields which act as real Faraday cages to protect the network against lightning.
