How to install a modern-life essential
18-08-2016
Smoking Shelters are essential for any commercial or industrial site, so it is important to know how to install them. To guarantee you can create a compliant area every time, we asked our team of installers how they go about installing the AUTOPA open spaces Smoking Shelter.
1. Identify the Location
A Smoking Shelter must be positioned at least 1.5m away from any building or other permanent structure otherwise it risks not being legally compliant.
Ideally all Smoking Shelters should be installed on a level surface, but if this is not possible, the feet of the AUTOPA open spaces Smoking Shelter can be adjusted by up to 70mm to account for any gradient changes.
2. Foundation Requirements
Smoking Shelters must be bolted onto an existing concrete foundation of at least 300mm3 using one 10mm bolt per foot.
3. Constructing the Frame
Build the frame from the ground up. Start by attaching the feet to the legs, before constructing the sides, front and back. Complete the frame by attaching the roof supports and finish the shelter by fixing the plastic sheeting to the sides and roof. Don’t forget! The shelter must remain 50% open when finished, so only attach sheeting to the upper half.
Remember: Smoking Shelters are large and heavy products and always need at least two people using lifting equipment to install. Don’t forget to wear appropriate PPE at all times!
