The challenge A leading UK based Aerospace design, production and repair organisation, providing a ‘one-stop-shop’ solution for design, test, manufacture and repair for aircraft cabin Interior projects needed to develop a process whereby they could recover and re-mould existing PU foam aircraft armrests. The solution Rojac have worked closely with this customer over a number of years to develop a solution for re-foaming armrests, this development included extensive flammability testing and tooling design, the tooling is often textured to match the original armrests and the colour is matched to either a sample part or a RAL number. The integral skin PU moulded aircraft armrests and other interior foam components are then supplied for re-fit, often to very tight schedules to stringent quality and flammability standards. The outcome Aluminium or steel PU foam mould tooling with MoldTech grained textures are designed in house by Rojac, the tooling is then manufactured to enable the re-moulding of armrests and other polyurethane components, the integral skin PU moulded armrests include moulded in frame/inserts. The resulting re-foamed components are then installed "good as new” into the aircraft.
