Passive Ground Water Sampling and the Snap Sampler System
The goal in groundwater sampling programs is to collect samples that are representative of in-situ groundwater conditions and to minimise changes in groundwater chemistry during sample collection and handling. Research and experience have shown that traditional well purging and sampling procedures can be sources of variability in water chemistry and sample quality due to the influence of sampling personnel, purging and sampling protocols and the sampling devices used. Over the past decade, the passive sampling methodology has been demonstrated to overcome many of the limitations of traditional purging and sampling and the effects that improper purging can have on sample chemistry and quality. Passive sampling can provide representative samples without well purging, thereby reducing field labour, increasing sampling efficiency and improving sample accuracy and precision by eliminating variability in the sample collection process. The Snap Sampler system takes passive sampling a step further by capturing the samples inside the well screen zone in sample containers that can be shipped directly to the laboratory for analysis. The Snap Sampler system eliminates the need to fill sample bottles at the well that other “passive” and no-purge sampling devices require. In this webinar, David Kaminski with QED Environmental Systems will walk you through the passive sampling process and provide you with an overview of the advantages of the Snap Sampler system over other passive and no-purge sampling approaches. PRESENTATION TOPICS WILL INCLUDE: What is Passive Sampling? Principles and supporting research for sampling without purging How passive sampling compares to well purging and sampling Cost saving and sample quality improvements with passive sampling Regulatory guidance and industry standards Different types of passive and no-purge sampling devices The Snap Sampler system – how it works Snap Sampler advantages over other passive and no-purge samplers WHO SHOULD ATTEND? Groundwater Monitoring Program Managers Groundwater Sampling Technicians Environmental Engineers and Specialists Regulatory Program Managers Groundwater Sampling Contractors Engineering Firms Hydrogeologists A question and answer session will immediately follow the presentation.
