Government launches online toolkit to help start-ups with hiring
18 Apr 2013 An online toolkit designed to help start-up firms take on employees has been launched by the Government. Unveiled by the Employment Relations Minister Jo Swinson, the updated toolkit aims to guide employers through the process of hiring their first member of staff, as well as the relevant legal requirements. The resource is free to use and includes information on setting pay, getting the right insurance, understanding tax requirements and checking a new employee’s right to work in the UK. A previous version of the toolkit was initially introduced in April 2012. ‘We know that around 300,000 businesses look to take on staff each year,’ commented Jo Swinson. ‘For some businesses there is a perception that hiring for the first time is a daunting process. This is especially the case if you are the owner of a small business and do not have your own HR staff.’ The toolkit can be found at www.gov.uk/employing-staff. We can advise on the tax implications of recruiting new members of staff. Please contact us to discuss your individual circumstances.
