Ofcom has today published its latest updates on the programme to clear spectrum in the 700 MHz band, so it can be used for mobile data services in the future
The 700 MHz band is currently used to broadcast digital terrestrial TV (DTT), commonly known as Freeview, as well as for wireless communications for programme-making and special events (PMSE). To make the band available for mobile broadband, these services are being moved to other frequencies. Today they published details of the frequencies the DTT network will move to as part of the clearance programme. They also published details of the clearance programme activity due to be completed in the first quarter of 2018. Clearance activity will take place in each area of the UK at different times, with the programme scheduled to be completed in 2020.
