Spectrum's latest M2p "65" series of PCIe arbitrary waveform generators has two new 8 channel cards, cuttting the cost per channel dramatically. Having this number of channels on one card is currently a unique feature.

The new additions to the "65" family are the M2p.6533-x4 with eight 40 MS/s channels and the M2p.6568-x4 that can be configured with eight channels of 80 MS/s, or four of 125 MS/s. In common with the other M2p “65” series the output has 16 bits resolution with a maximum output swing of ±6 V into 1 MOhm or ±3 V into 50 Ohms. As a whole, this card series have the lowest output noise of any AWGs so far designed by the manufacturer, being 20% lower when compared to the predecessor AWG. All eight models of the M2p.65xx series are half-length PCIe cards and only 168 mm in length. Equipped with an additional cooling system they are 2 slots wide.

As standard, all cards of the "65" series offer a deep on-board memory of 512 MSamples to store and replay many waveforms. Using the PCIe-x4 platform, these AWGs provide a fast data transfer speed to the host computer of up to 700 MBytes/second. This is ideal for automated testing when a replay of many different test signals is required over many channels to accurately recreate real world test conditions. Applications include, aerospace, medical and industrial ultrasound, LIDAR, component testing, radar and sonar.

Multiple M2p cards can be synchronised, increasing the channel count. This Star-Hub piggy-back option synchronizes up to 16 cards, not only the M2p AWG class products, but also the M2p.59xx 16-bit signal capture cards released in 2018. These M2p.59xx digitisers offer one to eight channels with sampling rates between 20 MS/s and 125 MS/s. The Star-Hub distributes a common clock and trigger signals to each card ensuring fully synchronous operation, so a mix of signal capture and generation can be performed, for example in a stimulus – response scenario. This arrangement is perfect for situations where multiple test points, or arrays of sensors, need to be stimulated by different test signals at the same time, then the response captured.

All M2p cards are fully programmable and drivers are provided, free of charge, to support the most popular languages (such as C++, VB.NET, C#, J#, Delphi, Java or Python) as well as third party software tools like LabVIEW and MATLAB. Alternatively, users can simply run Spectrum’s own software, SBench 6 Professional.

A unique 5-year warranty as standard provides further reassurance for the longevity of test solutions based on Spectrum Instrumentation products.
