Exciting developments at AMI Marine

We at AMI Marine have been very busy this year. We’ve launched the new SMIDS Pro series, added our AMI Partners to our website, and are currently redesigning our Online Training Experience.

In recent years, we have experienced some significant changes, which have led to our team’s expansion, expanding our customer reach and redesigning our online presence.

Our in-house development team is growing; we are fine-tuning the software of our key systems and developing new ideas ready for a host of new products and interfacing solutions.

AMI Partners

The AMI Partners portal allows customers direct access to our skilled AMI-trained engineers worldwide. By cutting out the middleman, ship managers can access local engineers directly. This helps remove language barriers and time zone differences. This will speed up service and installation time and allow our engineers to manage their customer portfolio directly.

New Training – fresh ideas

After the passing of our training manager and Chief Technical Officer, Robin Grigg, earlier this year, we are redesigning our training program. Robin had worked closely with our training team as we began this redesign process last year. Our new training aims to be clear and informative, ensuring engineers learn everything they need to service, install and repair AMI Marine systems. We also aim to make our training accessible online, ensuring it is affordable and accessible in any time zone. We want every engineer to have equal access to our training experience, whether from a large corporation or a self-employed engineer working independently.

New products and innovative design

With the launch of the SMIDS Pro series, we are also in the process of clearing certification on our SMIDS Pro Panama Pilot. As many of you know, new legislation from the Panama Canal was passed last year.

A-32-2022 requires all vessels with a beam of 109 feet (33.22 meters) or more transiting the Panama Canal since 1 October 2023 to have a fixed (non-portable) piloting unit with Real-Time Kinematics (RTK) for submeter accuracy.

As the original designers of the SMIDS system, we understand fixed piloting systems better than anyone else. Once our approvals are cleared around the end of June this year, we will begin installations around the world. Earlier this year, we worked with service partners HiTek Marine in Panama, ensuring we have established partners to assist with installations. We are awaiting approvals and are in expectation of a conclusion of Panama approvals very soon as mentioned.

The SMIDS Pro series is a reworking of our SMIDS MKII Legacy system. With a visually sleeker look and more accurate measurements, the SMIDS Pro is an elite upgrade offering unmatched intuitiveness, ultra-accurate data and vessel movement information.
