Fronter sees successful expansion in competitive European markets
Written by: Anne Hepsø

Press release, Berlin, Nov 30, 2006: The award winning Fronter platform for web based learning and collaboration is gaining confidence in several competitive markets.

In addition to acknowledged advancement in UK and the Netherlands, Fronter now teams up with CBT+L in Germany.

CBT+L is a highly successful company in the German e-learning sector, with a wide range of clients in both Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Among these are car makers Audi and BMW, healthcare companies Schering and Guidant/Johnson & Johnson, and telecom companies Deutsche Telekom and O2 Germany.

By extending its product and service portfolio with Fronter CBT+L now can implement high quality eLearning content through the Fronter interface. Among current CBT+L projects is the EU supported "Museum Scouts" where college students in Germany, Denmark, Latvia, UK and Portugal collaborate online to develop an education module for the Deutsches Museum in Munich, the largest museum of natural sciences in Europe. The collaboration platform is Fronter, which has interfaces in 12 different languages.

The expansion in the German markets comes in addition to ongoing continental projects, most notably in the Netherlands, where the Fronter platform now is used in an e-learning package launched by telecom company KPN and in an adult and vocational education module from recognised ROC Eindhoven.

This year Fronter also starts pilot testing in the Spanish market.

Fronter: Usability and versatility in an open architecture

The Fronter VLE is renowned for a usability and versatility. It is equipped with more than 50 tools and can manage complex learning and project management tasks. The idea behind Fronter is as simple as it is ingenious: In an open architecture, the organisational structure of a business or a training institution is mapped so that Fronter becomes the virtual building in which everything happens: from daily business at the user's desk in virtual global teams, preparation and post-processing of seminars to interdisciplinary research and teaching.

Fronter, established in Oslo in 1998, now counts over 1,5 million licences for the Fronter VLE. Customers range from organisations such as Finansektorens Uddannelsescenter (The Education Centre for the Finance Sector) in Denmark, AOF (Workers’ Educational Association) and Kommunal kompetanse (Municipal Competence) in Norway, The Swedish Armed Forces and The Swedish Rescue Services Agency, to Service Children’s Education (British Army, Navy and RAF), National College for School Leadership (NCSL), Local Education Authorities (Blackpool and Lewisham) and FE Colleges (Knowsley and West Cheshire) in England, to elementary and upper secondary education in the Scandinavian capitals Oslo, Helsinki and Copenhagen, adult and vocational education with recognised ROC Eindhoven in The Netherlands, to well-known Scandinavian universities and colleges such as Luleå Technical University, Dalarna University College, Chalmers Technical College, Karolinska Institute, and the majority of Norwegian universities and colleges, including the Universities of Oslo, Bergen and Tromsø.

In Scandinavia Fronter has a unique stronghold in the educational sector, with market shares far above 50% in all countries. Now Fronter experiences expansion also in the healthcare sector, with development projects both with the Regional University Hospitals in Norway and the internationally renowned Karolinska Institutet in Sweden.

Last year Fronter was awarded the European Seal of Excellence in gold by the European Multimedia Associations Convention, and recently the company was nominated in UK's Government Computing BT Awards for Innovation. In Helsinki, Finland, Fronter recently was named the best product in the VLE segment.

Fronter, lead from the head office in Oslo, Norway, is represented with offices in Sweden, Denmark, Finland, UK, Germany, Benelux, Austria and Spain.
