Energy Insights – optimising hydronic systems for energy savings

TA Hydronics Energy Insights seminars raise awareness of the implications of HVAC system optimisation on global energy consumption, and highlight specific energy saving opportunities. The seminar looks at savings in different system areas individually and at savings across the system as a whole. It has four modules.

Energy saving in production units (chillers, condensing boilers, heat pumps, solar panels). This section deals with the impact of terminal units control on the return temperature that increase the efficiency of the production units. The right action in these areas can improve efficiency by 15%.

The second module explores energy saving in distribution and how the use of variable speed pump control modes and differential pressure controller improve efficiency. The module also examines how to optimize pump head with balancing methods. The steps in this module can bring total pump energy savings up to 40%.

The third module explores energy savings through more precise room temperature control. It looks how small temperature differences have substantial impact on energy consumption and how the right thermostatic controls, power output controls and control of fan coil units and air handlers can optimise efficiency. These steps, together with those in the first module, can bring system savings up to 30%.

The final module uses real examples and case studies to show how different challenges were overcome in projects, how new solutions were developed and how all knowledge gained can now be put into action for your benefit.
