What are Antimicrobial Plastic Extrusions
The human body is faced with hundreds of different types of bacteria and germs on a daily basis, whether in confined environments or in frequent contact with or close to objects such as door handles, radiators, air conditioning units and walls etc. For the majority of the time our bodies are able to fight and resist these germs, however at times are bodies can become susceptible and fall ill from these bacteria and particles. This matter is something that has been recognised within the plastics industry resulting in genius practices that have been put in place in a bid to try and reduce the risk of these germs being transferred from object to human. The plastics industry is beginning to create plastic products that have antimicrobial properties designed to reduce these germs from being passed on by reducing the growth of these organisms within the plastic. These antimicrobial or antibacterial additives are commonly referred to as organic and non organic. Whereas, organic additives are seen as a quick fix it is often non-organic additives that often used as they remain for a much longer period of time within the plastic and therefore prevent the spread of these germs for a longer period of time. Antimicrobial plastics are commonly used in the plastic extrusion process as many plastic extrusions are created for industries that consider hygiene of a huge importance. The health industry for example are a perfect example of an industry that could really benefit from plastic products antimicrobial properties in order to help prevent the growth of any other further bacteria.
