THE PLASTIC INDUSTRY CELEBRATES YOUNG INNOVATION!
THE PLASTIC INDUSTRY CELEBRATES YOUNG INNOVATION! The Annual Design Innovation in Plastics competition is celebrating the win of Nottingham Trent University Student Annabel Burton’s design of the buckle and strap that fastens around the horse’s girth. This longstanding competition is open to undergraduates and postgraduate students registered in the UK and is co-organised by the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) and the Worshipful Company of Horners that has provided strong links within the Plastic Industry. Burton’s design of the Surcingle buckle a quick release device moulded in thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) with a tempered steel spring has landed her a placement at a leading global design and brand experience agency specialising in aviation transport and product design. Once again the plastic industry has come up trumps providing a favourable material that Burton clearly thought was best for her design. The good resistance and tensile strength are characteristics of TPU along with the ability to be stretched and upon removal of stress will return to its original shape, which ultimately in this case enables the quick release of the buckle. If you think you have what it takes to be next years’ winner in the Design Innovation Plastics competition, then make sure you take a look at the website.
