About Us

OakCAD started life in 1993 as a CAD Bureau, operating from the Weltech Centre in Welwyn Garden City.

By 1996, the company had expanded into selling MicroStation and AutoCAD CAD systems, together with CAD hardware. The following year we started to develop CAD, engineering and IT training courses, which we delivered on our clients' premises.

Engineering training soon became our major product and by 2000 we were concentrating on the comprehensive range of training courses shown on our web site.

At about this time, OakCAD bought the National College of Technology (NCT) and it became part of the OakCAD Training Group, focusing on providing engineering distance/flexible learning courses.

NCT was formed in 1986 to provide a range of electronic courses to cover the requirements for Continuous Professional Development (CPD).

In 2002 OakCAD was a finalist in the prestigious National Training Awards programme, rewarding us for our involvement in a four year training and upskilling programme for a multi-national pharmaceutical company. Over this period over 100 maintenance engineers attended 15 different training courses.

This programme of training has resulted in a more efficient maintenance operation for the company and greater job satisfaction for the maintenance engineers. The training is continuing as new equipment and new technology is introduced.

In recent years we have been developing some of our courses into distance learning format and as part of this operation have been engaged by a major distance learning provider based in London, to produce over 30 electrical training units for their new flexible learning programme. We have also acted as their consultants in the development of their practical training facilities at four sites across the UK.

This year OakCAD re-launched NCT with a new web site and a new range of updated distance learning courses and, as part of this ongoing development process, became a City & Guilds Approved Centre for CAD and a GOLA Centre for on-line assessment.

Recently, we took over the delivery and support of a range of management courses approved by the Chartered Institute of Management.

Our main operational office is located at the Open University in Milton Keynes and we have offices in Milton Keynes, Welwyn and Soham
