Ion Science, the Cambridge based gas detector and corrosion monitor manufacturers, have recently supplied a Hydrosteel 6000 corrosion monitor to the Sultan Qaboos University in The Sultanate of Oman.
The University are carrying out extensive testing in controlled laboratory conditions on behalf of the Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), the national Petro Chemical giant. The Hydrosteel technology measures, non-intrusively the flow of Atomic Hydrogen through steel (Hydrogen flux) in order to give an indication of corrosion severity and Hydrogen Induced Crack Risk (HIC), within steel pipe work and service vessels within the Petrochemical industry.
During a recent trip to the Gulf region which included The U.A.E. and Qatar as well as Oman, Nick Tucker, Ion Sciences sales manager for the Middle East & Southern Asia, visited the University for an update on the Project.
Nick says “I was delighted to be invited and welcomed onto the beautiful S.Q.U. campus by Dr Ashraf Talib Al-Hinai and his team. I feel sure we can assist them in their correlation between the typically sour, corrosive feedstock in the region and the corrosive mechanisms they are experiencing. Facilities at The S.Q.U. are impressive, and the warm hospitality of the Omani people makes it a pleasure to visit. We look forward to continuing a positive working relationship with both S.Q.U. and P.D.O in the future.”
While in Oman, Nick also presented the Hydrosteel technology to new prospective local distribution prospects.
