The Health Protection Agency (HPA) is an independent body that protects the health and well-being of everyone in England and Wales. The Agency plays a critical role in protecting people from infectious diseases and in preventing harm when hazards involving chemicals, poisons or radiation occur. We also prepare for new and emerging threats, such as a bio-terrorist attack or a virulent new strain of disease.
We are looking for an enthusiastic applicant for this position with in the Health Protection Nurse/Specialist Team to join our Surrey and Sussex team. The offices are based in Leatherhead but there are plans in place to move to a more central geographical location in the following year.
Applications are invited from experienced: Registered General Nurses, Public Health Specialists and Environmental Health Officers. Experience of National Health Service, acute and community settings is important, covering topics such as communicable diseases, infection control, teaching/training and research or audit would be viewed as advantageous. The vacancy would suit a person with broad general experience who is seeking to develop his/her role working as part of a team in the community.
This post involves following up contacts of cases of infectious disease, investigation and management of outbreaks, advice to a variety of organisations and individuals, developing policies and the provision of training and support to staff within the community. The applicant will need to have good communication skills, be able to work in a team and be prepared to take on responsibility, as appropriate to the band. Part of the duties of this post includes participation in the out of hours on-call rota, (paid in accordance with Agenda For Change).
Support and training will be provided. Successful applicants are encouraged to acquire higher academic qualifications.
