Changeworks Recycling Condemns ‘Dry Mixed Recycling’ Practice for Driving Export of Low-Quality Waste to Asia
Following global news reports of the Malaysian government’s refusal of illegally imported plastic waste, Scotland’s leading waste management firm, Changeworks Recycling has issued the following statement. Ken McLean, Operations Director at Changeworks Recycling said: “Changeworks Recycling is committed to helping establish Scotland as a high-quality recycling nation. “We work with Scottish businesses to reduce waste and maximise the capture of high-quality recyclables that can be reprocessed in the UK. “The widespread bad practice of ‘dry mixed recycling’ (DMR) waste management is driving the export of contaminated recyclables to countries like Malaysia. “We must abolish DMR in Scotland and prioritise the key recyclables to protect valuable resources and reduce our global carbon footprint. “Our Change Waste Challenge calls on businesses to reduce waste and increase recycling in support of the Scottish Government’s aim to recycle 70% of all Scotland’s waste by 2025.”
