Apprenticeship Open Event

Yesterday was the third day of National Apprenticeship Week 2016, and North Lindsey College hosted an Apprenticeship Open Event to inform local young people about apprenticeships. Representatives attended from Bradbury, NHS, G.S. Kelsey, and Tata Steel. Paul Sweeting, Technical Director at Bradbury, and two of our engineering apprentices, gave a speech on their apprenticeship experience, as an employer and as apprentices. Paul Bradbury has grown significantly over the years, with turnover increasing from £3million in 2010 to £15million in 2015, resulting in an increased demand to recruit good quality technical staff. Advised to look at local young talent, to develop their skills and train them in engineering, we entered into a partnership with North Lindsey College. After identifying the correct apprenticeship scheme to suit our business, we set up the Bradbury Engineering Academy. Our first intake was of six students, who have been motivated, willing, disciplined and dedicated throughout the past 16 months. Offering more than just an apprenticeship; we want our apprentices to have a career, so they will all be offered full time employment after the completion of their training. Our experience has been a really positive one and we have since recruited many more apprentices in departments such as engineering, marketing, IT and fabrication. Without question, apprentices are valuable assets to Bradbury, and we will continue to promote apprenticeships with North Lindsey College. brad 2Bradley Becoming a qualified engineer can be demanding and challenging, so an apprenticeship appealed to me because it’s a direct route to a career in engineering. Being an apprentice at Bradbury provides me with a hands-on learning experience to train, and develop my skills in a work environment. North Lindsey College and Bradbury have supported me throughout my training and I highly recommend apprenticeships as they offer great opportunities for progression. alexwebsiteAlex Apprenticeships are a great way to gain invaluable work experience whilst also attaining a reputable qualification. I decided to do an apprenticeship instead of a degree, as I wanted to learn in a workplace, rather than study in a classroom. Being an apprentice at Bradbury means I can earn while I learn, and I’m always being challenged with something new. I would recommend an apprenticeship to anyone wanting to work in engineering. Apprentices get out into the world of work and gain qualifications relevant to their job and future career aspirations by training in an apprenticeship.
