The beast of prey or the car of beauty

Jaguar -when we hear this we think of a ferocious beast which roams the jungle with poise and power, moving silently and with a purpose. In ancient Mayan and Aztec cultures the jaguar was a symbol for power and strength and the skin was used in many ceremonies. The Jaguar in the Aztec civilisation was used to depict rulers or warriors; they had an elite warrior branch which was dubbed ‘Ocēlōmeh’ (Jaguar Knights). But, we are not here to talk about the near threatened wild cat that is the job of the IUCN. We are talking about the great British car brand Jaguar. Founded in 1935 and originally producing sidecars for motorcycles, then after multiple mergers with different companies Jaguar was listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1984. Jaguar has manufactured cars for the British prime minster and also has royal warrants from both Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles. Jaguar has been bought and sold many times and has also nearly gone extinct, just like its name sake. Purchased in 1990 by Ford, then joined by Land Rover in 2000 both were sold to Tata Motor in 2008. The two were merged together to form Jaguar Land Rover Limited which now acts as the single manufacture and sales company for both Jaguar and Land Rover cars. The XJ has a tremendous 3.0 litre V6 engine; it also is turbocharged for that extra oomph. The Jaguar has a top speed of 155mph and can do 0-60mph in 5.9 seconds, not that that will be needed whilst being chauffeured but it is a nice thought to know it is there if needed.
