About Us

Baker Access (previously MAX ACCESS LTD) was founded in 1984 jointly by Nigel Baker the current Managing Director and his father Barry Baker who unfortunately passed away in November 1999. When the Agency for the original E. Falck Schmidt SPIDER (now Worldlift Industries) was granted in 1982 we were running it under our former Company name of B&G Crane Sales Ltd. As the name suggests we were at that time involved in tower cranes and when we decided to concentrate all of our efforts on the SPIDER access platform, we decided to change the name to something that was less confusing.

The dog in the logo, was a real dog named Max, hence the name, plus we felt it would be something that people would remember, but again Max is now in doggie heaven in the sky.

In the early days things were hard, as the industry was not ready to take on a new concept of access platform like the SPIDER. Nigel decided to change the way that the machine was marketed, and gently forced the idea onto the UK industry, so much so that the E. Falck Schmidt (Worldlift Industries) SPIDER is now used as a generic term to describe this type of machine, as Hoover is to describe a vacuum cleaner.

SALES Although SPIDERS are our speciality we can also supply for sale a variety of specialist access machinery from Scissor Lifts, Boom Lifts, Narrow Access Platforms etc.

HIRE FLEET We have the largest spider hire fleet in the UK and Indeed the World; we have various sizes for hire ranging from the TS/18 Spider to the TSB/34 [18 metre working height to 34 metre working height]. Included in this hire fleet is the BRAND NEW FALCON SPIDER FS 290, (29 metre working height) with all of its extra advanced and unique features. (Details can be found on this website.)

SERVICE DEPARTMENT With over 150 SPIDERS sold in this country our Service Department run by Phillip Dickens who joined us in 1985 is kept very busy. For customers with a service contract, or customers who hire from us, we offer a 24-hour contact number.

TRAINING Expert training solely on the E. Falck Schmidt (Worldlift Industries) SPIDER can also be carried out by our expert instructors authorised by the Manufacturers.

FREE SITE SURVEYS We offer free site surveys to our customers to try and ensure that the right machine arrives for the job, and also offer to Architects the chance to meet with us to go through any drawings that they may have to try and avoid possible problems once the building has been handed over.
