3D computer models are used at the very early stages in a project as concepts can quickly be put together, iterate many scenarios in a design study and review them for swift development. A project's design is checked for interface with the real world by simulation. This is done with a 3D computer model to confirm form, fit, function and aesthetics or analysis of a particular function such as deflection or stress. SolidWorks with Cosmos is our main CAD system for design and simulation. It is used to interface with all software throughout the design process. Throughout the project we can email 3D viewing files so feedback can be given and you can see progress. These allow you to view and manipulate our work on a standard computer and perform measurements, rotates, pan, zoom, sections, explodes etc. all in full colour 3D.
Virtually all items that go to make a product are often defined within a CAD model along with their materials and processes. Suppliers are involved during this stage to gain their input, build their knowledge of the product and smooth development to manufacture.
